A Discussion About Reality and Spirituality

We define Reality as everything that exists outside of a person’s mind. From Positive Realism’s perspective there are only two metaphysical factors: Reality and the Human Mind. Both are the only sources of Spiritual Fulfillment.

How one defines Reality is not dogma in our religion. If one wishes to define the Spiritual Fulfillment of Reality through a Higher Power, we accept it. If one wishes to define the Spiritual Fulfillment of Reality through only What Can Be Proven, we accept it.

Whichever path of Spiritual Fulfillment a person chooses, he or she must accept that there is Reality. If a person does not believe there is any Reality, he or she is not a Positive Realist.

The acceptance of the Spiritual Fulfillment of Reality requires you to do your best to follow the laws/rules of Reality.

The beliefs of Responsibility, Honesty and Respecting the Rights of Others help a person to define and understand the laws of Reality. If a person does not care about Spiritual Fulfillment or does not believe in Responsibility, Honesty and Respecting the Rights of Others, that person is not a Positive Realist.

A Positive Realist knows that Reality is the pathway to Spiritual Fulfilment through obedience to a Higher Power or adherence to That Which Can be Proven.

A Discussion About Responsibility

Positive Realism rejects the belief that a person’s Virtues and Faults are determined by Society, and/or one’s Genes. A requirement of Positive Realism is that you acknowledge that all people have Free Will.

We define Responsibility as “You are the source and cause of your actions.” Without Responsibility, Spiritual Fulfillment is not possible. If a person believes that he or she does not have Free Will, that person is not a Positive Realist.

We use the word “source” in defining responsibility to state that all your actions begin with you. In other words, a being from outer space did not take over your mind and body and violate the rights of others without your knowledge. Violating the rights of others always means that the source of the violation is you.

We use the word “cause” to covert the person who says, “The Devil made me do it,” to accept Responsibility.

Positive Realism is not for people who want to blame their failures and/or their immoral actions, on others. Such a person is not qualified to experience Spiritual Fulfillment.

The person who acknowledges their Responsibilities in life whether through the laws of a Higher Power or the laws of the Provable Universe is qualified to experience Spiritual Fulfillment in the area of Responsibility through Positive Realism.

A Discussion About Honesty

We define Honesty as “The attempt to accurately identify and communicate.” We emphasize “attempt” because people make mistakes. A mistake is not dishonest because we assume that the person attempted to accurately identify and accurately communicate. For instance, if you are asked “What time is it?” and you look at your watch and hastily reply “2 o’clock,” but the time is actually 3 o’clock, you made a mistake. Therefore, you were not dishonest.

If you look at your watch and you see it is 3 o’clock and you deliberately tell the person it’s 2 o’clock, then you have been dishonest. You lied.

Honesty enables Spiritual Fulfillment because Spiritual Fulfillment requires a direct connection to Reality. If you consistently refuse to accurately identify Reality then you cannot experience the Fulfillment of identifying the laws of Reality.

If you are not honest in your relationships with others, then you are disqualified from the Spiritual Fulfillment of accurately connecting with others just as you would be disqualified from experiencing Spiritual Fulfillment from connecting with Reality.

A Positive Realist’s honesty enables the Spiritual Fulfillment through the Reality of the Higher Power or the Spiritual Reality of That Which can be Proven.

A Discussion About Respecting the Rights of Others

Positive Realism’s moral requirements for Respecting the Rights of Others are:

  1. Never initiate violence.
  2. Always be honest.
  3. Keep your agreements.

For people to live together, to live in peace and prosperity, violence against the innocent must not be a way of life. We know that people have Free Will. We know that some people can and will initiate violence against others. However, because people have Free Will, any person who initiates violence against the innocent is not a Positive Realist.

Honesty is also required as explained previously.

Keeping your agreements is governed by the same Spiritual Law of attempt. We know that there are times when an agreement cannot be kept because of overwhelming circumstances. The Reality of the Higher Power and the Reality of That Which can be Proven is concerned about attempt.

We are not a results oriented religion. A results oriented religion only looks at what happened and excludes the Spiritual State of Reality, Honesty, and Responsibility.

In Positive Realism the results are existential only, not Spiritual. Positive Realism’s concern is Spiritual, especially in the realm of Respecting The Rights of Others.

The Virtues

Finding Value in Life and Others

People from all walks of life, the virtuous and the bad, share a problem of Value. The virtuous person can feel that there is no Value in life or in others because of the unjust misery and suffering that plagues the world.

A bad person is a person who does bad things to other people. The bad person believes there is no Value in life or in others because he or she has contempt for life and for others.

Through our teaching we help the good person find the Value in others by helping the person understand the value of Reality and Honesty and Responsibility and identifying those traits in him or herself and in others.

For the bad person, we first must work with him or her to get them to stop doing bad things to other people. We do it by getting the person to apply the beliefs of Reality, Responsibility, Honesty and Respecting the Rights of others. Then the formerly bad person can develop the virtue of finding Value.

The Virtue of Effort

We believe that Spiritual Fulfillment cannot be given to you. No one can give you self-respect. No one can give you Honesty or Reality or Responsibility. All these Spiritual Fulfillments can only be achieved. Achievement is dependent on the Virtue of Effort.

Awareness of the Spiritual Rewards of Reality, Honesty, and Responsibility stimulates the awareness of the Virtue of Effort.

Without the Virtue of Effort, life is an empty vessel slowly sinking to the bottom of a shallow body of toxic water.

Effort is the fountain of the Spiritual Rewards of Reality, Honesty and Responsibility.

The Virtue of Humility

Humility is the awareness of one’s limitations and mistakes. It is the acknowledgement that Reality cannot be successfully denied, Deception cannot replace Honesty, Blaming Others cannot eliminate the requirement of Responsibility.

Arrogance is the opposite of Humility. The arrogant believes he or she can do anything they wish without consequence. The arrogant believe that they do not need Honesty, that they are not limited by the constraints of Reality, that they have no Responsibility. And finally, all others must respect them, while they have no obligation to Respect the Rights of Others.

The arrogant are self-absorbed fools.

The humble are wise.
